NHS Lung MOTs have arrived in select areas across Somerset, Wiltshire, Avon, and Gloucestershire

Past and current smokers who are registered with specific GP practices across Somerset, Wiltshire, Avon, and Gloucestershire are now being invited to NHS lung health checks to improve lung health, detect and treat lung cancer earlier, and save lives.

People who are offered a scan will be able to have their CT in a designated mobile scanning unit that will move between convenient community locations with Bristol, West Bath, Bridgwater, and central Gloucester, such as supermarket and school car parks. The first few face-to-face appointments and low-dose CT scans will take place aboard a mobile unit at Bath Community Academy, Rush Hill, Bath in July 2022.

This initiative is part of a wider programme across England that recently expanded into a further 20 locations, including SWAG. Latest projections show as many as 1.5 million people will have been invited for a lung health check across 43 locations by 2024/25.
